The goal of the New Glarus Christkindli Market is to provide New Glarus visitors and residents with an engaging small-town wintertime cultural experience, and to increase holiday sales at local businesses.

The Market is looking for vendors selling merchandise appropriate for Christmas gifts, stocking stuffers, holiday decorations, and festive foods.

WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED? 

The Christkindli Market provides vendors with either a 10ft x 4ft open air booth, 13ft x 7ft enclosed stall, or 10ft x 10ft enclosed stall. Every effort will be made to provide the requested chalet size, however, quantities are limited. Final decisions on sizes will be made by market staff. Each chalet will include a basic interior lamp, power strip, and electricity suitable for low to medium use. Promotion and marketing will be provided by the New Glarus Chamber of Commerce through print, radio, social media, and Swisstown website.  

The Christkindli Market is an outdoor winter market – plan to be in operation in cold temperatures. Vendors should dress in warm clothes, and should be comfortable in cold temperatures for extended periods of time. Market staff will not be available to provide retail staffing support. Vendors may not rely on market staff or volunteers in order to provide temporary staffing support or restroom breaks for your stand. This may require having more than one staff person in order have bathroom breaks. 

A Market staff member will lock the 10x10 and 13x7 chalets at the close of Christkindli Market each evening and unlock them each morning upon your arrival. If you would like to bring your own lock, you may do so and allow permission for lock to be cut if staff must enter in case of an emergency.
10x4 chalets do not lock; your product must be removed at the end of each market day.

VENDOR REQUIREMENTS 

  • Chalet fees are $300 for a 10x4 chalet, $400 for a 10x10 chalet and $500 for a 13x7. $100 will be returned to vendor at the end of the event if chalet is returned clean and undamaged. Vendors that no-show or are not present for the full three-day event will forfeit their entire deposit and may not be invited to return.

  • A limited number of 10x4 chalets are available at no cost to New Glarus based non-profits. Contact info@swisstown.com for details.

  • Vendors are required to be open and selling product for the entire duration of Christkindli Market operating hours (Friday, Dec 6th: 3pm-7pm; Saturday, Dec 7th: 10am-6pm; Sunday, Dec 8th: 10am-5pm, 2023) Vendors may not close until the market hours are over. Vendors may not have vehicles in the market space until market hours are over.

  • Vendors must be set up and ready to go 30 minutes before opening time each day

  • Chalet structure may not be altered by anyone other than event staff (removing panels/walls). Any vendor that alters chalets without event staff permission will forfeit their entire deposit and may not be invited to return.

  • No alcohol may be sold at the event.

  • Every vendor’s primary focus must be on selling retail items, food, drink, etc. Any potential fundraising efforts must be secondary and not aggressive.

  • Only one chalet per business is allowed.

  • Vendors must provide staff and product sufficient to operate during all market hours, all market days.

    • All staff should be free of alcohol, tobacco products, e-cigarettes, and vape pens while present at the market. 

  • Each vendor will be required to bring all additional necessary items that might include but are not limited to: additional decor for the interior and/or exterior of the stall, additional shelving and tables for product display, chair(s), Point of Sale system, extension cords, etc.  

  • Vendors must provide a clean and welcoming space around their stands. This includes decorating the interior space of their chalet to the satisfaction of the market staff, providing supplementary signage for retail operations, and properly disposing of garbage. In case of snow, the Village of New Glarus will clear the center of the streets, but you will need to clear snow from immediately around your chalet. We recommend bringing a shovel, just in case!

  • Electric heaters are NOT allowed and will blow outlets. Christkindli Market recommends one of the many safe, inexpensive propane heaters available in retail stores. The New Glarus Fire Department and/or Christkindli Market staff may conduct periodic inspections to ensure fire safety.

  • Vendors must provide proof of comprehensive general liability and property damage insurance, with liability limits of not less than $250,000 per occurrence and in the aggregate. This must be provided ASAP after submitting your application.

  • All vendors must meet health, safety and fire regulations. All vendors are required to provide their own 10 pound ABC Class fire extinguisher. No open flames will be allowed either inside or outside of chalets.

  • Only the New Glarus Chamber of Commerce may sell souvenirs branded with “New Glarus Christkindli” or “New Glarus Christkindli Market.”

  • No MLM vendors will be allowed.

  • Vendor space will not be confirmed until market staff has emailed with written confirmation. You will receive a confirmation email by September 11th, 2024. Applications received after September 11th will be responded to as received.

  • Any cancellations by vendors must be made prior to 5 PM, November 1st. Cancellations made before November 1st will receive 50% of deposit refunded. Cancellations made after November 1st will forfeit the entire deposit.

  • Applications will not be considered until payment is received. All vendors selling items must provide a Wisconsin seller’s permit number, FEIN/SSN, or tax exemption code at time of signup.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  • All applications will be taken into consideration and selected by a choosing committee.

    • Being a vendor in previous years does NOT guarantee you a spot.

    • Apply early, spots are limited.

    • Applications are not selected on a first come, first serve basis.

    • This is the first round of applications. You will be contacted on September 11th, 2024 if you have been selected.

  • Due to high demand, chalet size will be picked based on what kind of goods are being sold. You will be given the option to pick your top 2 choices.

  • Food vendors applying will only allowed to be in 10x4 chalets.

  • You will be notified your application status right away after choosing committee has their final meeting mid-September.

CANCELLATION

THE NEW GLARUS CHRISTKINDLI MARKET HAS THE RIGHT IN ITS SOLE AND ABSOLUTE DISCRETION TO CANCEL OR POSTPONE THE EVENT FOR ANY REASON.

Should Christkindli Market be postponed or canceled for any Act of God, public safety, welfare or for any reason whatsoever, Vendor hereby RELEASES and FOREVER DISCHARGES Christkindli Market, its officials, officers, employees, representatives, agents and volunteers from any and all liability, losses, harm and claims for damages, and any other actions or claims whatsoever, which result from or arise out of such postponement or cancellation.
